Prevention is Better than Cure
By His Excellency Dr. Herbert Johag

Prevention is a much-used word today. Politicians and the mass media talk about prevention of crime, prevention of disease, prevention of accidents, prevention of natural disasters and prevention of war. Hundreds of billions of dollars are spent every year on preventive measures, yet we do not see any significant decrease in crime, disease, accidents, earthquakes or wars. It's quite obvious that modern technologies are neither suitable nor effective in preventing these problems

Life in Fulfillment During the Rule of Ram
Ideal societies are recorded in the Vedic Literature in which ancient Vedic technologies were used for prevention—to create harmony, happiness and life free from problems. In the Ramayana, which narrates the life of Shri Ram, we read: Ram Raj dukh kahu na vyapa—"In the reign of Ram, suffering belonged to no one.

In Vedic times, Maharishi Yagya performances were a normal feature of life. Vedic citizens performed yagyas for their own benefit, and the government organized yagyas for the good of the whole country. Rains came on time; cities and provinces enjoyed an abundance of food; the people were happy and fulfilled.

The Individual is Truly Cosmic
There is a close relationship between the individual and the universe. The Vedic texts say: Yat pinde tat brahmande—"As is the individual, so is the universe." Every thought, word and action of the individual influences his environment and ultimately spreads to the whole universe. These influences return to the individual at a later time, according to the principle: "As you sow, so shall you reap." Every action has a reaction.

Good actions by an individual reflect back as life-supporting influences, bringing happiness, good health, success and progress. Harmful actions bring unfavorable influences, decreasing happiness and health, and creating obstacles to success and progress.

Every Graha has a Counterpart in the Human Brain
His Majesty King Nader Raam, first sovereign ruler of the Global Country of World Peace and the foremost scientist of our time, has discovered a one-to-one relationship between specific areas of the brain and their cosmic counterparts—the stars and planets which surround us in the universe.

According to the Maharishi Jyotish program, the Grahas (planets) are associated with specific significations (see Chart I below). Each Graha represents qualities which every individual possesses to some degree. For example, there is a relationship between Surya (the sun), the thalamus in the brain, and the desire for social status. Shukra (Venus), who is associated with love, attraction, marriage and wife, corresponds to instincts, emotions and reproductive behavior governed by the substantia nigra of the brain.

Destiny Can be Read from the Birth Chart
There is a mutual influence between each Graha and its corresponding area of the brain. An expert in the Maharishi Jyotish program can determine from the birth chart the positive and negative influences from the stars and planets, and how the various celestial bodies influence the brain. Positive influences bring progress, success and happiness. Negative influences on the brain bring grief, loss, ill health and failure.

The birth chart, calculated from the time and place of birth, contains all information about an individual. It represents a map of the heavens at the moment of birth and allows the expert in the Maharishi Jyotish program to determine the current point the individual has reached in his evolutionary path. The expert can see from the birth chart which abilities and qualities the individual has developed, and what areas still remain to be perfected.

Maharishi has compared this process to an assembly line in a factory. If a production expert takes a half-finished product from the assembly line and examines it, he can tell what work has been finished and what is still required to make it complete. In the same way, the expert in the Maharishi Jyotish program can tell what the individual has experienced in the past and what the next steps in his evolutionary development will be.

Graha Shanti Offers Protection from Negative Influences
The Sanskrit word Shanti means "peace," and Graha is translated as "planet." Therefore the term Graha Shanti refers to Maharishi Yagya performances which neutralize unfavorable influences from the Grahas. However, the translation of the word Graha as "planet" does not do justice to the importance of the Grahas. The Grahas are more than celestial bodies moving through space; they are part of the administration of Natural Law.

The textbooks of the Maharishi Jyotish program state that the destiny of all the people and the universe is under the administration and authority of the Grahas. Graha Shanti should be performed when a Graha is becoming inauspicious for an individual. Prevention from negative influences requires that the positive influences of Graha Shanti are created in advance, before the negativity arrives.

Maharishi Yagyas Bring Support of the Laws of Nature
The Laws of Nature govern all behavior in the universe, such as the laws of physics and chemistry used in the functioning of a car or television, or the biological laws that determine the functioning of the human physiology. The Laws of Nature also apply to human behavior and the events that occur in the life of an individual. So it's natural that we would like to have control over the functioning of these laws to fulfill our desires.

But frequently, the Laws of Nature are not favorable and our desire remains unfulfilled. This trend can be changed with the help of Maharishi Yagya performances, which address specific Laws of Nature to garner their support for our projects. No desire need remain unfulfilled, unless the birth chart shows that the life of the individual should be taking a different direction at the current stage.

Prevention Should Be a Household Word
Now that Maharishi has made Vedic technology for prevention available in our age, there is no need for failure or suffering. Most individuals already spend money on insurance to help them once a danger or calamity arrives. Wouldn't it be wise to spend a little more and prevent these problems from coming in the first place?

Governments spend huge amounts in an attempt to make the lives of their people safe and secure. Billions of dollars are spent on the military, even though history has shown that weapons cannot save a country from destruction. If the money spent on a single high-tech tank were redirected to Maharishi Yagya performances, it would go a long way to reduce enmity from other countries and secure the nation's safety.

In spite of well-meaning efforts by their government, people around the world have expressed dissatisfaction with the politicians that govern them. Many governments struggle to stay in power for even a single term of four years. Yet the Ramayana reports that Shri Ram ruled for 40,000 years. He must have had a very high approval rating amongst his people!

Government leaders can now do something about their approval rating, by using these ancient Vedic tools for prevention. And the citizens of every nation need not rely on government leaders to secure their future, but can instead take their destiny into their own hands by organizing Maharishi Yagya performances for themselves and their families
