Maharishi's
Knowledge Comes to My World

Another Maharishi Vedic Vibration Technology tour was coming to Portland, Maine, and I wanted to tell as many people about it as
possible. I decided to call the TV stations, since it was fewer phone calls than
calling all the Meditators in my area. Besides, many of the Meditators’
problems had been already solved by previous consultations, so I knew we
needed to reach out to a wider audience.
Five weeks before the experts arrived, I laid the foundation for the
story. I lined up a doctor to give a medical perspective, a spokesperson
who could explain the program, and some local people who had good
experiences with Maharishi Vedic Vibration Technology and were willing to
be interviewed.
After planning the story, I called the TV stations and asked to speak
with the person in charge of the health news. I had prepared a script
pitching the whole story in one clear and succinct minute, since these
people are on really tight schedules.
I called three stations and all three showed interest. So I sent them
each a copy of Relief magazine and the new 24-minute "video press
release" produced especially for TV stations.
Two days later I called them back. They were amazed by the story. The
real challenge was getting them over the "unbelievability hump."
It’s always hard for people to believe something new before they
understand the technology behind it.
I told the TV stations what I’d lined up for them—local people, a
doctor, a spokesperson, etc. When it was all arranged, a news crew came to
my house to tape. That evening a two-minute segment aired on the local
news. Follow-up lectures at the public library were announced in the piece.
To get on a news show, you really have to do most of the work, but it’s
worth it. I see this as a first step in developing a relationship with
these people. You’ll want to call them again for the next story—maybe
about the latest research on Maharishi Amrit Kalash or another Maharishi
Vedic Vibration Technology tour. I even sent them "thank you"
notes.
Speaking to the press was a huge source of joy for me. It was a chance
to share Maharishi’s knowledge with my world.
If you would like to have your local TV station cover Maharishi Vedic
Vibration Technology, call the national office at 800-431-9680. Materials
available to help you include the video press release and a script for
your initial phone calls.
