Mozambique: President Chissano Aims to
Eradicate Poverty

is not the weapons that will save the country, it is the coherence of
its national consciousness, and the unbounded awareness of its

The Panafrican News Agency reported
on January 22, 2000 that President Joaquim Chissano says the "core
objective" of his government’s new five-year program is to
"wipe out absolute poverty." President Chissano was recently
elected to a second five-year term. His first term as President resulted
in an unprecedented period of peace and economic progress for the African
nation, which he credits to the harmonizing influence of the
Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi programs practiced in groups by
thousands of soldiers in the Mozambique armed forces.
Russia: Eastern Alliance for Lasting World
Peace Launched
In Moscow on November 22, 1999, the
Russian Academy of Social Sciences signed an historic agreement with
Maharishi University of World Peace. The two groups agreed to create a
forum to bring political leaders and thinkers of the East together to
create an "Eastern Alliance for Lasting World Peace."
His Excellency, Ambassador at Large
of Russia, Academician Alexander Kapto is the foremost leader of world
peace in Russia. "The Academy of Social Science," says
Ambassador Kapto, "is happy to work together with Maharishi
University of World Peace to establish big groups of Yogic Flyers in all
the Eastern countries to create coherence and peace in collective
consciousness.
Japan: Japanese Political Leaders Endorse
Eastern Alliance
Dr. Kogi Kakizawa, former Minister of
Foreign Affairs of the Government of Japan, and Mr. Hidenao Nakagawa,
Member of Parliament, Chairman of the Space Development Committee and
former Minister of Science and Technology, endorsed the Eastern Alliance
for Lasting World Peace.
"Science and technology are
essential for the happiness, health and welfare of all the living things
and they should never be used for killing or destruction," said Mr.
Nakagawa.
"The approach proposed by
Maharishi Mahesh Yogi to create world peace is not through physical
weapons or destructive means, but through consciousness. I very much adore
his noble thought."
