March 2000 Maharishi
University of Management News Did you know that you can earn academic credit for attending the Transcendental Meditation Program Teacher Training Course? At Maharishi University of Management, undergraduate students from any discipline may complete a minor in the Science of Creative IntelligenceSM by finishing this course. One additional advantage is that students may qualify for financial aid such as grants and loans. "The University’s Financial Aid Office was definitely a big help in getting there," says Arwin Waller, one of the eleven students and staff who recently graduated from a Teacher Training Course in Seelisberg, Switzerland. "They told me about grants and scholarships, including one where I won scholarship awards for my creative writing. That money went towards the Teacher Training Course." The returning Governors praised the nourishing lifestyle the University and the Fairfield community provide to support that profound aspiration to teach the Transcendental Meditation program. Since Maharishi emphasizes the importance of teaching as soon as possible after completing the course, the University arranged for the new teachers to instruct new students from the Spring Semester enrollment in January. "It’s so fulfilling to see how people are completely transformed by their first meditation and how thankful they are for the wisdom," says Ms. Waller. Jaison Lynch, a business major, taught with a prisoner rehabilitation program, while first-year student David Sinton taught on a project in Omaha. Former staff member Laura Courtney will continue to work on a special project in Vlodrop, Holland before returning to teach in Washington, DC. Students can even arrange to receive academic credit for fieldwork experience when they go out to teach. Noah Schechtman and Ted Hirsch, who have been mainstays of the University’s Yogic Flying Club, are already planning their first Yogic Flying demonstration in Palo Alto, California, where they are now teaching full-time. When asked about the experience and benefits of the Teacher Training Program, all students agreed it was thorough training, profound knowledge, and a huge transformation. "The course was amazing," says Ms. Waller. "It was definitely life-transforming in a wonderful way." Jaison Lynch agrees: "When I look back at the person I was before I started, I feel like I’m totally different. I feel I’m light years ahead of who I was before."
