It is my very great joy to announce the establishment of Maharishi University of World Peace throughout the world, and the appointment of Dr. John Hagelin as its first president. Maharishi University of World Peace will be a global university with campuses stretching around the globe—at least one in each of the 12 time zones—in New Zealand, Australia, Japan, Thailand, India, Russia, Germany, Holland, Brazil, and 4 campuses in North America.

Each of these campuses will house 1,000 students, and in India five additional campuses for 7,000 students will be built. Already land has been purchased in many of the locations and construction is about to begin. The students of this university will be from every country of the world, however, the vast majority of students will come from the Vedic families of India who have the Vedic knowledge in their heritage.

Vedic science is the science of peace. Each of the 40 disciplines of Maharishi Vedic Science has a very specific role to play in creating a permanent state of peace on earth. Traditionally, the Vedic families have had this role of maintaining peace on earth through Vedic science and technologies, however, with centuries of foreign invasion of India this vital role for mankind was forgotten. Maharishi is now restoring this rightful role of the Vedic families as the peace creators in the world.

Today there are professions for most everything in the world, but no profession of peace creators. Maharishi University of World Peace will train professional peace creators in every generation through Vedic technologies of enlivening the Unified Field of Natural Law in world consciousness.

World peace should not be just our concern; it should be the concern of everyone. If the 100 wealthiest families of North America contribute even 1 percent of their wealth, peace could be secured today for all time. To help establish these universities, Maharishi sent a delegation to North America to meet with wealthy and influential individuals and inspire them to support the building of this university.

In the past weeks, our delegation has held banquets and meetings in many cities, such as New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Diego, San Francisco, Washing-ton DC, Seattle, Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal. Delegation members include Dr. Doug Henning, Dr. Volker Schanbacher, Barry Charles, M.D. and myself. We have presented Maharishi's plan for these Maharishi University of World Peace campuses to thousands of individuals, including wealthy business people, celebrities and philanthropists.
