Prestigious Speakers Preside Over Commencement Ceremony
On July 1, visitors from across the nation and around the world joined
the Maharishi University of Management community in the Maharishi
Patanjali Golden Dome for its 1999 Commencement Exercises. For the 25th
year in a row, students received Bachelors, Masters, and Ph.D. degrees
verifying both expertise in their field of study and mastery of the
managing intelligence of nature, "higher education for higher
consciousness."
Keynote addresses were given by Mr. Gordon T. Beeham III, president of
Bon Ami household products, and Professor Tony Nader, M.D., Ph.D.,
discoverer of Veda and Vedic Literature in the Human Physiology. Mr.
Beeham was introduced as a man with "a remarkable range of personal
accomplishments including degrees from Princeton and Harvard, achievements
in the U.S. Navy, and leadership roles in business and social
organizations. Most recently, Mr. Beeham distributed copies of Dr. John
Hagelin’s videotape, "A Peaceful Solution to the Kosovo
Crisis," to company presidents and board members across the nation.
In his address, Mr. Beeham reviewed the achievements of past
civilizations, culminating with Maharishi’s plan "to prevent future
wars through large coherence-creating groups and global yagyas."
Professor Nader congratulated the graduates for their accomplishments.
"The cosmic potential we have within us unfolds a reality that is
beyond the imagination of what anyone has known or seen today," he
noted. "The graduates of Maharishi University of Management have
worked to develop that full potential whereby with a thought they can
achieve their goals, with a feeling they can know everything. They can be
everything!"
In his traditional Charge to the Graduates, Dr. Bevan Morris, President
of the University, proclaimed, "You are the most enlightened
university graduates in the world. You have the greatest wisdom, wisdom of
how to achieve success in any aspect of human existence. You are the best
of the world. And I think we all feel when we look at you that you are the
hope of the world."
College of Vedic Medicine Produces First Graduates
On
graduation day, the University had two reasons to be proud of
Valedictorian Sylvia Valentine. In addition to receiving the highest grade
point average, Sylvia was a pioneering graduate of the College of
Maharishi Vedic Medicine.
To qualify as a Vedic Medicine Consultant, Sylvia, along with her
class-mates, developed expertise in all areas of Vedic Medicine, including
Dr. Nader’s discovery of Veda and Vedic Literature in Human Physiology,
and the knowledge of classical Ayurvedic texts. The students gained
practical experience in pulse diagnosis, dietary recommendations, and
herbal prescriptions at the campus clinic, where they completed 108
consultations under the supervision of western physicians and experts in
Maharishi Vedic Medicine from India.
At an award ceremony the night before commencement, Sylvia expressed
gratitude for the deep knowledge she had received. "When I first
started this program," she said, "I did so based on the saying,
‘Physician, heal thyself!’ This has been so much more than a degree
for me. There has also been incredible personal growth through this
program.
