Touching
the Pulse to
Create Balance and Health:
an
interview with Dr. Brihaspati Dev Triguna
|
|
Dr. Brihaspati Dev Triguna is the greatest living
expert in nadivigyan, the Vedic science of pulse diagnosis. By gently
touching your pulse with the first three fingers on his right hand, Dr.
Triguna is able to detect any imbalances within your system—imbalances
which are at the basis of present or future health problems. Based on what
is felt in the pulse, he is able to recommend natural and effective
measures to restore balance in the body, allowing present disorders to be
normalized and future illness to be averted.
Dr. Triguna is Director of the World Center of Maharishi Ayur-Veda in
India, and has served as president of All-India Ayur-Vedic Congress—the
largest medical association in the world. He holds several posts for the
government of India, including Director of the Central Council for
Research on Ayurveda, and chairman of the National Academy of Ayurveda.
Dr. Triguna has received India’s highest civil award, the Padma
Bhushan Award, for his many years of service.
Enlightenment magazine was able to interview Dr. Triguna during
his most recent visit to the United States in June of 1998.
Enlightenment: Dr. Triguna, when you feel the
pulse, is it as clear and simple as if you pick up something hot and say,
"Oh, hot!"
Dr. Triguna: Yes, it takes only a few seconds.
Enlightenment: Can this skill be taught to anyone?
Dr. Triguna: It is not a secret knowledge. It can by
taught to anyone. This is a very systematic and scientific knowledge.
Maharishi has structured a course in pulse reading that anyone can take.
Enlightenment: If Meditators would like to learn
this, will it be easy for them?
Dr. Triguna: Actually, Meditators will learn it faster
since their qualities of focus and concentration are more developed. Also,
continuous practice of feeling the pulse is needed to master the skill.
Enlightenment: How did you become involved in
spreading the knowledge of the Maharishi Ayur-Veda program?
Dr. Triguna: In 1979, Maharishi for the first time had
the thought to popularize Ayurveda, and he called me to discuss it. He
felt that because the body and mind are so intimately connected, for the
development of higher states of consciousness it was very important to
take care of the health of everyone. Ayurveda is the world’s oldest and
most effective system of natural health care, so its effects are known.
It’s benefits are authentic and time-tested.
Enlightenment: Can you tell us about Maharishi
Amrit Kalash?
Dr. Triguna: Amrit Kalash is a very ancient formulation.
It is very good for the mind and body. It strengthens the immune system.
It creates a clear mind and develops a more refined intellect. Everyone
should take Maharishi Amrit Kalash to restore and to preserve their
health.
Enlightenment: You have been working with
Maharishi for nearly 20 years to revive the complete knowledge of the
Maharishi Ayur-Veda program and bring it to the world. What has been your
inspiration for this task?
Dr. Triguna: At the basis of all this development has
been Maharishi’s desire to bring perfect health to everyone. As the
knowledge of Ayurveda grew, if anything was found to be missing, it was
Maharishi's desire to fill in those missing elements. Maharishi Ayur-Veda
just kept growing as he continued to bring more knowledge out. Now it has
spread all over the world, and the demand is increasing every day. All of
the credit goes to Maharishi.
Enlightenment: What advice would you give to the
meditators for developing good health and enlightenment in the coming
years?
Dr. Triguna: Naturally, the Meditators should be very
regular with their daily meditation and with the TM-Sidhi program. I am an
expert in Ayurveda, so from this point of view, you should take one step
at a time, make steady progress. See that your physiology does not become
overly tired Use all the programs of Maharishi Vedic Approach to Health to
improve your life.
Second, diet and behavior play a critical role in this process. What is
called ‘modern science’ really has some deficiencies and disabilities.
As modern science has grown, things that used to be in balance are now
causing real problems. Food, for example. Today much of the food contains
a lot of added chemicals. Therefore, it is best to avoid eating food
containing added chemicals, especially non-vegetarian food.
A third point is to take care of the effects from your surroundings.
Maharishi wants everyone to live in a natural, healthy house built
according to Sthapatya Veda. And any negative influences coming to you
from a distance, from the planets, must also be neutralized. For this,
Maharishi developed the Maharishi Yagya program.
A fourth very important aspect is that whatever we can contribute, we
should contribute for the good of others. Whoever is associated with
Maharishi’s movement, if they do not have money, they should contribute
their time. Those who have a good position in society should use their
status to help create a positive influence for the whole population. Those
who are business people and have a lot of money should contribute some
portion of their profits to this movement to support the good work it is
doing. We have to provide knowledge to everyone in the world. We have to
provide perfect health to everyone in the world. It will only be possible
when everyone unites together for that goal.
Enlightenment: On behalf of all the Meditators, we
would like to express our appreciation for all the magnificent work you
continue to do.
Dr. Triguna: All of us are the same; together we can work
to fulfill Maharishi’s mission, to create a disease-free society.
Whatever I have said today, I have said it from the bottom of my heart.
Jai Guru Dev.
16-Hour Short Courses to
Create Balance and Health in Life
These courses for the whole population are currently offered at Maharishi
Vedic Universities, Colleges and Schools, and at The Spiritual Center of
America in North Carolina. Maharishi University of Management in
Fairfield, Iowa also teaches the courses through the Center for Maharishi
Vedic Medicine and the Department of Continuing Education.
Self-Pulse Reading Course for Prevention
This course provides both theory and the practical technique for detecting
balance and imbalance in the body, as well as measures to correct
imbalances before disease arises. An added benefit is that the process of
Self-Pulse Reading itself can create a balancing influence in any area of
imbalance within the body. Each participant will learn Self-Pulse Reading
in a gradual, systematic and effortless way, with ample time for practice
and to grow in mastery of the principles and technique. During this
16-lesson course, you will learn:
- how the intelligence within the body is
reflected in the pulse
- to feel the influence of cosmic cycles in
the pulse
- the feel of imbalances in the pulse, and
the progressive stages of imbalance
- causes and effects of imbalance
- how the body’s inner intelligence
protects against imbalance
- how to restore and maintain balance
through proper diet, and through daily and seasonal routines.

Human Physiology: Expression of Veda and
the Vedic Literature—Discovery under Maharishi’s
guidance by Tony Nader, MD. Ph.D.
This course presents the essence of the entire field of modern objective
science and ancient subjective science. It brings to light the major
discovery of our own physiology in terms of its inner intelligence, whose
impulses are available in the form of the Veda and Vedic Literature. All
the specialized components and organs of the human physiology are found to
match the 40 branches of the Vedic Literature one to one, both in
structure and in function.
