"The Maharishi Vedic Medicine program is for becoming an expert in Vedic Medicine," says first year student Tamara Kohler, "but more than that, it’s for gaining enlightenment. It uncovers the knowledge of life, knowledge of the Self and the laws of nature, and therefore it is the most evolutionary study in the world."
Maharishi University of Management’s College of Maharishi Vedic Medicine provides an educational program unique in the world today. During the first year, students study Vedic Anatomy and Physiology, based on Professor Tony Nader's discovery of Veda and Vedic Literature in human physiology. Professor Nader has been available throughout the year via conference calls to discuss specific points of his discovery and to answer students’ questions. The first-year curriculum also includes an overview of preventive medicine and the treatments of Maharishi Vedic Medicine.
"The guiding theme of the year is for students to apply the knowledge to what they do in daily life," says Dr. Evan Finkelstein, First Year Course Coordinator. "This really helps their health and personal growth to accelerate dramatically, at the same time as they are preparing for their career."
Undergraduate students earn a BA in Maharishi Vedic Medicine, preparing them to work as health educators and as Maharishi Vedic Medicine Consultants to physicians. Graduate students work toward a Ph.D. in Physiology with a specialization in Maharishi Vedic Medicine. As Specialists in Maharishi Vedic Medicine, they may work with locally licensed physicians and function as natural health care practitioners where permitted by their countries’ laws.
Students recently gained fieldwork experience at Maharishi Vedic Approach to Health Centers as nearby as The Raj in Fairfield, and as far abroad as Israel and Holland. They enjoyed getting hands-on experience in clinic organization and administration, publicity and promotion, Web site development, menu planning, and using video-conferencing equipment.
The students’ favorite fieldwork activity was interacting with clinic guests through patient education sessions and lectures on the principles of Maharishi Vedic Medicine. "It was really fun presenting knowledge and answering questions on Maharishi Vedic Medicine," says Travis Callendar. "And hearing from the people how beneficial this approach to health has been in their lives gave me a fresh perspective on all I’d learned."
According to Robert Schneider, M.D., dean of the College of Maharishi Vedic Medicine, "The curriculum is profound and comprehensive, and yet very practically oriented. It’s training future leaders in the field of health care, by teaching the students everything they can do on a daily basis to create good health for themselves and for their society."
The students agree. "The Maharishi Vedic Medicine degree is the most satisfying and fulfilling course that anyone can imagine," says Olivia Sinton. "I’ve found that this knowledge nourishes every aspect of my life, and I feel a steady growth of deeper inner contentment."
"As we learn to heal the world, we also learn to heal ourselves," adds Ananda Prohs, "thereby gaining complete harmony in knowledge."
"The program has been set up to promote the fastest possible evolution," concludes Nolita Graefin von Natuschka. "The knowledge is complete. The teachers are intelligent, loving, dedicated and inspirational. What more can you ask
for?
